E-reading vs. “real” books
I am a bibliophile.
I love books. I love adventure. Escaping to other worlds. Learning new - and old - things.
I have a real library here at the farm. It’s one of my favorite places in the house. All of my treasures lined up haphazardly on dusty shelves.
Books from childhood like Charlotte’s Web and the whole Little House series. Beverly Cleary. Picture books that take me back to a simpler time. Back when our children were little enough to sit on my lap and listen to their mama narrarate with voices and feelings and laughter.
Books from my teenage years like A Wrinkle in Time, The Mists of Avalon, and all things King Arthur.
Vintage books about homemaking, the Bible, mythology, farming, and some of my favorite 1950s teen novels.
I add new books, almost monthly, to this collection. And, once a year, I donate those that I no longer have interest in. But alas, age and eyesight have forced me to grow my collection using other means.
Why e-books?
I have every Kindle ever released by Amazon. Yep. the very first one to the latest Kindle Scribe. I love my Scribe. It is the size of a “real” book.
For $11.99 a month I get Kindle Unlimited and I love the convenience of being able to download bestsellers and new series. I also use the Libby app from my local library and have access to millions of books to download.
My Scribe has a fantastic twist - I can actually take notes, write annotations, draw anything, and even create notebooks, planners, lists, and create art.
Is it worth the investment? For me, definitely! I was spending money on Thriftbooks buying whole series of books, only to find that I couldn’t comfortably read them without more powerful readers. On Kindle, you can change font size, margins, and even line width. It’s worked for me and saves on eye strain since I read so much!
I’ll be sharing more awesome deals from Amazon Prime Days which start tomorrow! I only recommend things I have purchased and love. Trust me, I am on a first named basis with the Fed-Ex guy!
Happy Shopping,
xoxo
