Come in

I imagine you knocking at the front door. “No, don’t worry about your shoes, it’s a farmhouse after all, and as you can see, I haven’t mopped because it’s not worth it til the mud dries up.” (Frankly my darling, I don’t give a dang about mopping.)

We sit at my little table in the kitchen, coffee in hand, Bibles open, heads bowed, and I pray:

“Father God, thank you for true friendship. Thank you for letting us realize that we have time for You and each other. So many times we put our friends last, when we need them the most. Grant us, we pray, quality time, studying your Word, and listening to each other. In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.”

I’ve set out my favorite pens, markers and highlighters, stickers and washo tape, and we open our Bibles. You read the passage out loud. God’s Word pouring into our empty hearts, watering our souls. We write a verse down in our notebooks and we dive in. We look up words, we consider the meaning of the verse in general. Who was it originally written or spoken to? In what language? (because we are word nerds after all!) We wonder how this passage can change our walk with Jesus.

Nothing else matters. We laugh. We cry. We create. More coffee?

We move to the living room, comfy cozy couch and chairs. Plenty of blankets and pillows. “Put your feet up and act like you live here kind of vibe.” Now the talking begins. We talk about our husbands, our kids, our grandchildren. We dream out loud about some day vacations and retirement. We are working together on our health goals.

“How are you doing with your exercise goals?”

“Did you stay on plan?”

Before we know it, hours have passed by. Hours not wasted, but invested. Visits to the farm are like that. Time with your best friends is soul food.

As I walk you to the door, we stop and hug, because I am a hugger, and we thank God together for this amazing Saturday morning, because we are uplifted, refreshed, and ready to take on the world.

Thank you for visiting my friend,

xoxo

Carolyn
