Balancing Act: The Modern Farm Wife's Journey 🌾

Here in the heart of rural America, a new narrative is unfolding. Today's farm wives are no longer confined to the homestead, instead venturing into town for work while juggling the demands of family life and battling feelings of isolation.

We seek each other out.

Facebook is filled with groups of Farm Wives.

Older women encouraging us, some women telling us to run now, and young women excited to marry their farmer.

Finding My Tribe Online

Thank goodness for technology. Late at night, I often find myself connecting with other farmwives on social media. We share our triumphs, our struggles, and our latest time-saving hacks. We ask for new meal ideas. What jeans don’t wear out. We wonder why our farmers choose “shop beers” over date nights.

It's not the same as in-person interaction, but it's a lifeline I've come to cherish. And, I often find comfort in knowing that so many are posting, questioning, the exact same things I have gone through. Our role as farm wives may have shifted through the ages, but we still deal with the disconnect and isolation from our farmers, and our friends. In most marriages, the farm ALWAYS comes first. Over vacations, events, sports. dates…I think you get the picture.

Reflections Under the Stars

As I finally wind down, I step outside and look up at the vast, star-filled sky. Despite the challenges, there's an undeniable sense of pride in this life I've chosen. I'm not just a farmwife or a career woman – I'm a blend of both, carving out a unique path that honors tradition while embracing modernity. Sure, it's tough. There are days when I feel stretched impossibly thin. But then I remember – I'm part of a legacy of strong women who've always done what needs doing. We're redefining what it means to be a farmwife, one day at a time.

And you know what? I wouldn't have it any other way.

xoxo Carolyn
